I have downloaded Firefox 4 Beta version 8 and I never really touched Beta’s before much as the problems with bugs they might encounter…

However I must say I love this new version.

I think that Mozilla have got the tabs in the correct place this time to allow for the new App Tabs, which are absolutely awesome must I say… I like it because you can have as many of these things as you like and you dont have to even install anything extra! What a great idea! App Tabs give you room for all your tabs so you dont have to close them to work on other sites which uses, yes you guessed it : more tabs! I think that this should have been in the 3rd version of Firefox because I am a very heavy Firefox user and working on a computer doing my daily routine of Twitter and Facebook and Email etc became IMPOSSIBLE when I also had several Youtubes and other interest sites up as well!!

All your bookmarks come in automatically which is great so you dont have to worry about importing them.

In this new version of Firefox you can group your tabs in relevance so you only see the items in that particular window at one time. For example if you had a load of Youtube videos that you wanted to watch and you had not got round to doing it you could group them and store them for later and continue working on other things without tab-clutter!
Managing them is easy: just drag the thumbnails in Panorama view to a free space in Firefox to make groups and then add more thumbnails to the groups by dragging thumbnails onto other thumbnails. Even make thumbnail space by drawing the box first! You can even name the groups so that you know what is in them.

However in this version there is no status bar and if like me you like to see how well the page is loading you can download add-ons for it. Firefox may change this in the future but until a proper 100% stable Firefox 4 comes I dont think we will see a change!

These are the some of the biggest and best changes to the browser to date with the option of it evolving into something even greater in later versions! Sadly it wont cook your dinner or sing to you yet, but I daresay Mozilla are working on that right now !

I showed my friend this simple way of putting his favourite Youtube videos onto his iPod and he was pretty impressed!

Hope you now have some fun in downloading and adding the videos you want for your convenience!

1. Open youtube.com in your browser and search for the video you want on your iPod (iPod Touch in my case)

2. Copy the URL of the video for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWzrVVZ02ok
(YOU MUST WAIT FOR THE VIDEO TO COMPLETELY DOWNLOAD INTO YOUR CACHE BEFORE DOWNLOADING IT !! Waiting for the video to fully play is a great idea to make sure you have completely downloaded the video!)

3. Open in another tab or window the website www.keepvid.com and paste the copied link into the box on the website and click download (When prompted enter the code)

4. Chose the .mp4 filetype and right click the download link and select Save Target As (or simillar)

5. Save in your computer to a movie folder

6. Plug in your iPod and ipen iTunes and locate the video you have downloaded and import it into your library

7. Sync your iPod with the video and you should now have a video on there!

(8) GO HAVE FUN

Today I read that Teletext was to be killed off in 2010 after so many people have the internet or freeview in their homes. After 2012 this will be the case anyway because analogue will finally be shut down altogether.

Which after reading that I thought I’d write a blog post. So, have a think for a minute: How much of your world is actually controlled by a computer? Where do you use it? What do you look for on the internet? Why has computing become such an important way of finding out news etc? Who uses it in their jobs? When is all our lives only going to be controlled by using a computer?

It is very frightening to think that almost all of our lives are already controlled by a computer. The alarm you woke up with this morning, the coffee machine, the CD player.

Losing Teletext isnt a huge issue really is it? Think how much better the internet is for finding information: it is fast, more reliable (?), easier to read, and finally you can get so much more information on a web page. I know what I’d go for if I wanted to find out the latest chart number 1 or the TV program listing for a later date.

So when you next read a news article think: we’re so fortunate that the internet was invented so that we can carry out complex tasks that Telexext wouldnt be able to manage!

On my old site I was working with my DIVs and I came across a slight problem with my coding. My scenario was that I wanted to have the main DIV move as I re-sized the page. I found out that because I was using position: (CSS), I wasn´t going to achieve this.

This is the reason:
The position: in CSS will want one of 5 options.
They are absolute, fixed, inherit, relative or static.
I had been using the absolute one because I wanted it to stay in one place. In this case the middle. I used left: to define how far over I wanted it to go, and positioned it nicely with my 17" 1280×1024 resolution monitor.
Using position:absolute is wrong because people might be working with the site in a small window or their monitor might be a different resolution. For 800×600 viewers the site would be just useless!

Oh dear! That was very foolish I know. I was ending up going to other browsers (Internet Explorer 6, Firefox etc) and checking it and changing it to display correctly. That was pretty bad too as nothing ever was right.

I found a site called Web Generator, which looked pretty cool as it is a Web 2.0 utility.
I made a mock up with that and downloaded the HTML and CSS files for it.

In looking at the CSS, I found out that it wasn´t using ID for DIV layers but a class instead. I also noticed that it wasn´t using the frustrating position:absolute code, but the display:inline and float:left code. This worked for what I wanted to do.

Using a class for a DIV allows multiple DIV´s to be assigned to a single style, if you want it that is.
However ID (the individual DIV name), will only be useful for a single DIV as it works on name.
